Let's eat at Wheeler's Restaurant in Standish, Michigan.
So I had yet another idea, let's eat at another restaurant my first for the year. So I did.
Restaurant - Wheeler's Restaurant...
Location - Standish, Michigan (Where I-75 and US-23 separate near northeast Michigan.
Date: Jan. 8, 2023
So a friend of mine was in Standish on business the week before my visit and she stopped here before headed home. She recommended this place to me, so I stopped here on a quiet Sunday afternoon (actually it was almost evening when I got here). BTW, note the sign above the door. This is also a Cops & Doughnuts substation (see previous blog).I should note that this is a look that you can not duplicate at the modern chain restaurants even if you tried. This is why I like the local mom&pop owned restaurants, because even if restaurants like this had several stores none of them would look totally the same.
Right around the time I got back to my table with this plate...
...my dinner plate arrived. This was a grilled cheese and ham sandwich with french fries. In their favor, they got this out so fast. The sandwich was so good. Strike one of two: I wasn't able to finish the fries even though I gave it a good liberal dose of ketchup. I did offset that by getting a couple more things at the salad bar.
Strike two: they serve Pepsi products instead of the superior Coke products. I resorted to just having water today.
Considering what I just had for dinner, this was not a bad price for it all. I gave my waitress a $20 bill and told her to keep the change from that which I believe came out to $4.66 which was greater than the recommended tip levels on the receipt you see pictured here.
My verdict: I want to come back here again. I see they have a breakfast menu which I want to try. Maybe sometime soon.
If you're driving through this part of Michigan, this is a classic style restaurant I feel you should check out.
