I had an MRI yesterday, and it was so much fun. Not!
Not really an idea, but rather my telling of an experience I had yesterday. Copied and pasted from my facebook page. Something I really hadn't really revealed here yet, recently I had a colonoscopy done at my local hospital. The doctor found something he didn't like, had it tested and it turned out to be cancerous. According to official forms at the hospital I now have rectal cancer.
Yesterday, I had an MRI done which I talk about below. Today I am having a CT scan done, and around 48 hours from now I get to meet with a doctor to talk about the results. What follows is my experience with the MRI.
So I had that MRI thing yesterday...
No spoilers here. You are on a table which is pushed into a tube. Arms at your side, there is almost no room to move them. Maybe a few inches exist between your face and the top of the tube above you. As I mentioned yesterday, if you're claustrophobic this is not an exam for you but you probably still have to take one anyway if you're here. And I haven't even mentioned the constant loud noises from all the equipment moving around.
I spent around 45 minutes in there which was what they were hoping to get from me. At my left hand was an emergency call button which I wanted to use a few times, if anything to come up for air for a few moments before going back in to finish the job but I decided to stick with it all the way through. My nurse said she got all the photographs she needed on the first try which I felt was probably not the case with other people she did this exam with. This would mean a longer time in the machine.
Yet this machine scares people. I mentioned how little space you have and also the loud noise. This machine really scares people. My nurse told me afterward that she's had people walk into the room for the exam, see the machine, then turn around and walk out.
I guess this even impacted me a little bit. Last night, I had gone to bed and before I fell asleep I realized something. I start my sleep on my back, which is normal for me and which was my position during the exam. In that position, I realized that my left hand was gripped around the non existent emergency button just like how it was during the actual exam.
Thankfully all of that is over as I now prepare for my CT scan which is around 2 1/2 hours away as I type this. This was obviously so much fun yesterday that I'm sharing this with you in one form or another on all 3 of my platforms.
Bye for now.
